How One Woman Went From A Brand New Instagram Page To Over $7.4 Million In Sales In About 9 Months... Simply By “Yapping” To A Camera…

One of my favorite feel-good online business success stories of 2026 is the story of Jessi Jean and her Yap Challenge.

On November 24, 2025, she started a brand-new Instagram page.

Zero followers.

Then she started “yapping,” as she calls it, talking to her camera and posting it on social media pretty much every single day.

She picked up her phone, looked into the camera, and talked. Or “yapped,” as she calls it.

She talked about what she was learning.

She shared her thoughts.

She experimented.

She figured out what worked.

And she kept posting.

About five months later…

She had grown the brand-new Instagram page to over 400,000 followers.

But here is where the story gets even more interesting.

During that period, she also created a little $37 ebook teaching some of what she had learned. (But that ebook was mostly about buying and selling used furniture…)

That reportedly generated around $24,000 in sales.

Not bad.

But that was peanuts compared to what happened next.

People clearly wanted to learn how she was doing this.

So Jessi packaged what she had learned into a six-week online program/challenge called the Yap Challenge.

The idea was beautifully simple:

She would teach other people how to grow on social media by doing what she had just done herself…

Yapping to a camera.

Her first launch reportedly brought in around $1.2 million in about 13 days, with something like 4,600 people or so joining.

Then she repeated that launch, I think one or two times…

And within only about 4 months of launching the Yap Challenge, and within about 9 months of starting her brand new Instagram page, Jessi Jean said that she has generated over $7.4 MILLION in sales from her “Yap Challenge”! (Probably a huge portion of that is profits considering how she generated those sales from social media traffic)

  • From a brand-new Instagram page…
  • To 400,000+ followers…
  • To a $37 ebook…
  • To a six-week online challenge…
  • To more than $7.4 million in sales.

All in roughly nine months.

Talk about going FROM “YAPPING” TO STACKING.

The tools available to the average person today are absolutely ridiculous.

  • You can reach people all over the world—for free.
  • You can build an audience—for free.
  • You can build a Personal Brand—for free.
  • You can start an email newsletter for very cheap.
  • You can create an online paid community.
  • You can write and self-publish a book.
  • You can create a course.
  • You can start a podcast.
  • You can interview interesting people.
  • You can sell digital products.
  • You can build a Brand—for free, or for very cheap.
  • You can create software without knowing how to code.
  • You can build an international business from your laptop.

And now, with AI, one person can do things that would previously have required an entire team of people.

It's absolutely mind-boggling.

Do. Document. Teach.

There is another business model hidden inside this story that is really fascinating.

And it can basically be summarized in three words:

Do. Document. Teach.

Do something. Document what you're learning. Then teach other people how to do it.

Jessi didn't spend ten years studying social media theory and then emerge from a cave declaring herself an Instagram guru.

She did the thing.

She grew the page.

She documented what was happening.

Then she taught the process.

I think this is one of the most interesting opportunities available to entrepreneurs today.

You don't necessarily have to ask: “What can I teach?”

You can ask: “What can I DO?”

  • What result can you create?
  • What experiment can you run?
  • What can you become good at?
  • What can you document?
  • What can you figure out?

Because if you figure out how to do something that a lot of other people want to do...

You might have a business.

  • Grow an email newsletter. Document it.
  • Build a paid community. Document it.
  • Build a brand. Document it.
  • Write and sell a book. Document it.
  • Build an AI business. Document it.
  • Generate leads for a local business. Document it.
  • Build a personal brand. Document it.
  • Lose weight and get in shape. Document it.

Do something interesting.

Get a result.

Then show other people how you did it.

The Business Opportunity Hidden Inside Your Own Experience

I think a lot of people make business far too complicated.

They sit around trying to invent the perfect business idea.

Meanwhile, the business opportunity might be sitting right in front of them.

  • What have you figured out that other people are struggling with?
  • What are you currently figuring out?
  • What have you done that other people want to do?
  • What problem have you solved for yourself?
  • What process have you developed?
  • What mistakes have you already made that could save somebody else six months of pain?
  • What experiment could you start today, document publicly, and eventually turn into something you can teach?

That's why I find this whole Do → Document → Teach model so fascinating.

You don't even necessarily need to know what the final product is when you start.

Start doing something worthwhile.

Start documenting.

Start building an audience around the journey.

Pay attention to what people respond to.

Pay attention to their questions.

Pay attention to what they are willing to pay for.

Then package the answer.

The Internet Has Turned Attention Into An Asset

“Money Follows Attention”

There's another lesson here.

Jessi didn't start with the Yap Challenge.

She started with attention.

She built an audience first.

That's an incredibly valuable asset.

Because once you have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people paying attention to you, there are a lot of ways you can monetize that attention.

  • You can sell a book.
  • You can sell a course.
  • You can launch a challenge.
  • You can build a paid community.
  • You can start a newsletter.
  • You can recommend other people's products as an affiliate.
  • You can sell consulting.
  • You can sell coaching.
  • You can get sponsorships.
  • You can launch your own products.

You can do several of those things at the same time.

This is why I keep coming back to personal brands, audiences, email newsletters, and communities.

The individual product might change.

The audience remains.

And Jessi Jean is an incredible example of just how quickly that can happen.

  • Brand-new Instagram account in November.
  • 400,000+ followers roughly five months later.
  • A little $37 ebook generating around $24,000 during that time.
  • Then the Yap Challenge.
  • About $1.2 million from the first launch.

And only a few months later...

More than $7.4 million in cumulative sales.

You Don't Need 400,000 Followers

Now, before you look at those numbers and think: “Great. All I need to do is get 400,000 Instagram followers.”

That's not the lesson.

You don't need 400,000 followers.

You don't need $7.4 million in sales.

You don't even need 40,000 followers.

This brings me back to one of my favorite concepts on the internet: Kevin Kelly's 1,000 True Fans.

You don't necessarily need millions of people.

You need enough of the right people who care deeply about what you do.

Imagine building an audience of only 1,000 real customers.

If those 1,000 people spend $100 per year with you...

That's $100,000 per year.

If they spend $1,000 per year...

That's $1 million.

The internet allows incredibly small groups of people, by historical standards, to support very substantial businesses.

Jessi's story is simply an extreme example of the same underlying principle.

Build an audience.

Build trust.

Create something they want.

Make an offer.

From Consumer To Producer

And maybe this is the part of the story I like the most.

Most people use Instagram to consume.

Scroll. Watch. Like. Scroll some more.

Jessi used Instagram to produce.

And there is an enormous difference between those two ways of using the internet.

The same smartphone can be an entertainment machine...

Or a money-making machine.

The same social media platform can consume three hours of your day...

Or become the distribution channel for your business.

The same internet that can distract you for the rest of your life can also allow you to build something that changes your life.

It depends on which side of the equation you choose to be on.

Consumer or producer?

I think far more people need to make that switch.

Stop merely consuming and start focusing on PRODUCING.

Start producing something yourself.

Write. Record. Publish. Build. Sell. Experiment. Learn. Document. Teach.

What Could You Build In The Next Nine Months?

That's the question Jessi Jean's story leaves me thinking about.

Nine months isn't very long.

Nine months from today is coming whether you do anything with it or not.

So what could you build?

  • What if you started publishing every day?
  • What if you started an email newsletter?
  • What if you started documenting yourself learning a valuable skill?
  • What if you started interviewing successful people in an industry you wanted to understand?
  • What if you started building a community?
  • What if you wrote your first book?
  • What if you created your first little $37 product?
  • What if that little product showed you what people actually wanted...
  • And that eventually turned into something much bigger?

You probably aren't going to generate $7.4 million in the next nine months.

But that's not the point.

The point is that you might be dramatically underestimating what can happen when you consistently produce instead of consume.

Another fascinating thing about Jessi Jean is that she did NOT pretend to be an expert—in fact she kept repeating over and over again how she is not an expert.

And her videos are way less polished than the videos of a lot of other content creators.

That actually seems to be an emerging trend these days: LESS POLISHED, LESS PROFESSIONALLY PRODUCED videos!

That is great news if you are just starting out :)!
