Life Here On Earth Is Short And Temporary

It seems that everywhere the Bible speaks about the brevity of life, it uses vivid illustrations to remind us just how temporary our lives really are.
We are compared to a vapour (James 4:14), grass that withers (Psalm 103:15–16; Isaiah 40:6–8), a shadow (Job 8:9), and a passing wind (Psalm 78:39). God wants us to remember that this life here on earth is only temporary, while eternity is forever.
“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
— James 4:14 KJV
“¹⁵As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. ¹⁶For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.”
— Psalm 103:15–16 KJV
“⁶The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: ⁷The grass withereth, the flower fadeth...”
— Isaiah 40:6–7a KJV
“For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow.”
— Job 8:9 KJV
“For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.”
— Psalm 78:39 KJV
The Bible is clear that life here on earth is very short and temporary. It describes our lives as a vapour, as grass that withers, and as a passing shadow. But it is equally clear that after this life, every human being will spend eternity in one of two places: everlasting life with God through faith in Jesus Christ, or everlasting punishment separated from Him.
Jesus Himself said:
“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”
— Matthew 25:46 KJV
Life Here On Earth Is Indeed Short And Temporary
“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
— James 4:14 KJV
“As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.”
— Psalm 103:15–16 KJV
“For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.”
— Hebrews 13:14 KJV
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
— John 3:36 KJV
And finally, Revelation describes the final judgment:
“¹⁴And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. ¹⁵And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
— Revelation 20:14–15 KJV
ALL Of Us Have Sinned! And ALL Of Us Need Jesus Christ!
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
— Romans 3:23 KJV
How To Be Saved And Get Eternal Life
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
— John 3:16 KJV
“⁹If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
— Romans 10:9-10 NIV
That's How Easy The Gospel Is!
Repent from your sins, turn away from your sins, and put your belief and trust in Jesus Christ and you will be saved and get eternal life.
None of us can achieve salvation through works, by grace we are saved through faith in Jesus Christ, it is a gift from God. But it is up to us to receive it—through faith.
“⁸For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: ⁹Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
